Supporting people
with disabilities |
| Good Samaritan Industries
does not simply provide employment options, as we believe
that this is just the first step in an exciting journey of
self-discovery. The organisation has introduced several initiatives
to encourage each individual to strive to achieve their best
in all aspects of their lives:
- Developing and recognising
achievements
- Developing social networks
- Providing a fun and involving
work environment
- Helping with living expenses

| Developing
and recognising achievements |
|
The
annual Sarah Potter Awards, funded by a bequest, recognise
individual achievements and personal development by
our staff members.
 |
Winning
the Sarah Potter Award helped Clinton McLachlan
to buy a computer and led to him meeting his wife,
Diane, over the Internet. |
We
also run two nationally accredited training
programs to enable staff to gain new skills
and qualifications, enhancing confidence and self-esteem
and considerably improving job prospects.

| Providing a fun
and involving work environment |
We
believe that everyone should enjoy going to work and try to
make time to have a little fun now and then. Theme dress days
for occasions like the Melbourne Cup, Christmas and Easter
help to bring the workplace alive. Special events like the
annual Open Day for friends and families, and our celebration
for International Day of People with a Disability, enable
staff to showcase their work and achievements to the public
and inspire a sense of pride in the organisation.

| Helping with
living expenses |
For many of our staff it is a challenge
to manage day-to-day expenses and we try to stretch their
income a little further by providing a subsidised Café
at Canning Vale and a Good Sammy 10% staff discount card to
assist with the purchase of basic household goods and clothing.
