Good Samaritan Industries gave a traditional GSI warm welcome to their local Member of Parliament, Peter Abetz MLA and his wife Jenny on the 29th February. Peter was at GSI to make a cheque presentation to Deputy Chairperson of the GSI Board Ms Lorraine Paul as a significant contribution to its capital works programme.
This year GSI is embarking on a project to upgrade the roofing and air-conditioning in the GSI factory at Canning Vale. The aim of the project is to improve the working environment at the factory for over 200 staff that process the 3.6m kgs of community donations received each year from the iconic yellow donation bins and the GSI home collection service.
GSI staff have dreamt of a day when the factory will be cooler in summer and better protected from the winter weather that the 30 year old roof struggles to cope with. To this end, the State Government through Lotterywest has provided $1.6m to GSI as a major contribution to the capital works project.
“On behalf of all our employees, volunteers and Board members, we sincerely thank the magnificent contribution Lotteryest has made to their working lives” said GSI CEO John Knowles. The project also complements a parallel capital works project to upgrade the GSI canteen, toilets and wet areas for staff. “When these projects are finished we will have further built on GSI’s already excellent record in providing a contemporary working environment for staff, something that all supporters of GSI can be proud of” said John Knowles.
